I love alt text, and I don't even "need" it — it's just extra helpful context and you get to be clever writing it. There's nothing to lose.

it’s so frustrating because the alt text entry form takes up the entire screen on mobile, covering up the original picture. I can’t describe everything from memory

There's even a setting that reminds people to put in alt text. For the forgetful bitches (it's me, I'm forgetful bitches) so I really don't know what's stopping anyone from adding it.

One of the few good things Twitter has is a setting that reminds you if you post an image with ALT text. I'm mostly in the habit of doing it now but still forget sometimes so the prompt is really useful. Hopefully something like that can be added here too.
