Korea's Dunkin' Donuts just made every other Dunkin' look like FOOLS for not embracing the corn-shaped, corn-dusted, corn cream-filled donut wearing a corn husk costume.

Getting boxes ready for California Extreme! Diving deep into my collection and finally selling stuff I've had sitting around in a box for decades. There will be some stuff that hasn't seen the light of day in a while! Lots of figures and big box PC.

July 27-28 in Santa Clara!

It's extremely rare and I really want one, so keeping it, but it's just like... a nice copy of this very rare game was unnecessarily turned into a shitty copy

Good: I got a copy of the rare Atari ST version of Karateka! Not as good: The seller TAPED UP THE BOX before they shipped it, and shipped it in an ENVELOPE, and now it's all trashed.

It's explained in the official press release, but no, Atari did not acquire Amico as part of this - that stays with that team.

one time he sent me a copy of the collected works of his comic "Brendan Brewer, Video Game Reviewer," with the note "please don't sue me."

Still considering it.

Woke up this morning to the terrible news that my friend Cameron Davis (@gazunta.bsky.social) has passed away.

He was a journalist turned game developer turned comic author who did these very funny, very sweet family comics and loved games. I'm so shocked I won't get to talk to him again.

(and yes that does mean that 3D World Runner and Rad Racer were originally going to be in the same franchise!)

Summer CES 1987 was, in a manner of speaking, Square's rather understated debut in America. Nintendo showed "3D Racing" aka Tobidase Racing aka Highway Star aka Rad Racer. While over at its stand, the brand new company Acclaim was showing The 3D Battles of World Runner, aka Tobidase Daisakusen.

...and they're like, oh, right, that's Highway Star, which had been announced in Japan as "Tobidase Racing" but wasn't out yet. Computer Entertainer also noted the announcement of "3D Racing" but didn't mention Konami's game.

I jumped over to Famitsu to read more. Indeed, they were very interested in the 3D glasses as well! Rad Racer at this point was being called simply "3D Racing." The Famitsu interviewer says, haven't I seen this before? And Howard Phillips says, well, it's from a company called Square...

The Famicom 3D System only came out in Japan, so it's interesting that its worldwide debut was actually as an NES accessory! And even more interesting, the bottom right screenshot shows a game called "3D Space Adventure" by Konami - this is likely Falsion, released on disk later

Since there were no game enthusiast magazines in 1987, coverage of Nintendo's rather eventful Summer CES is hard to find. I stumbled across another interesting photo spread in the Japanese magazine Famimaga. I didn't realize that the Famicom 3D system was announced at this CES:

As a few people have pointed out, the "elephant clothes hanger" makes SO MUCH more sense now. David Sheff described it as a whimsical plaything but failed to understand that it was an example of Miyamoto's schooling in human engineering.

When one of GamePro’s Super Nintendo consoles died, I hollowed it out and made it into a tissue box. Next time Nintendo visited the office, they were offended, but I saw it as recycling. It is now in the possession of @kohler.bsky.social, and he has deemed it worthy of a plaque
