If you’re at #Readercon this weekend and wanna hang out, let’s do that! I’m sure we won’t run out of things to talk about, but in case we do, there’s always these two.

Thanks to the Ragdale team and my fellow residents for the past few weeks! Like summer camp, except swap capture the flag for all-day novel revision—the better sprint, if you ask me.

Wow, such an honor to be the favorite story from a whole month. Thanks to Michael for reading and writing so kindly about "The Dreadful and Specific Monster of Starosibirsk," from when it appeared in The Dark.

Have a pair of character-driven horror novelettes that I'm really proud of, both heavy on dread, revelation, feeling—and lighter on the speculative element. Is there a home for this kind of thing (a home outside of my own computer)? Or, all hope lost here?

Delighted to see “The Dreadful and Specific Monster of Starosibirsk” (newly in @pseudopod.org, with narration by @barsukov.com) on this list in really fantastic company.

Wow, honored to see “Approved Methods of Love Divination in the First-Rate City of Dushagorod” is a finalist alongside the amazing @foxesandroses.bsky.social and Jeannette Ng. Long live chaos and long live short fiction!

I made this Pride flag using only NASA images and our team thought it would be cool to share on social (I work on the NASA heliophysics communications team), but it's getting all sorts of hate on the bird app and Fbook. Thought y'all might be more appreciative of it here. ☺️🏳️‍🌈💖

I made this gofundme to help a dear friend keep her house. If she doesn't pay the first advance in threes days her house will be seized. If you have the resources please consider helping. If you can, please share widely. This is heartbreaking. 🙏

Come celebrate Kristen and Oscar’s beautiful new work with me at their ROC NY book tour stop, Saturday at Bookeater. In keeping with the theme, I’ll be reading something nostalgic and internet-y, and whatever the opposite of escapist is.

Like, damn, let a bi woman be bi because that's just her deal? Without minimizing it, treating her like an alien, adding tiers of preference that aren't there, or doing waggly eyebrows about what her sexuality might mean for you. Really is still like that out here in 2024 though.

I watch reality shows for book research and my mental health, and, man, this exchange with Dominique and Chris on Perfect Match S2 is so cringe. She's talking about having feelings for a woman on her last show, and he's all "So you're bicurious?" and "Heh, that's definitely fun."

Please engage with the work done by Writers Against the War on Gaza, by Book Workers for a Free Palestine, and by the Gaza Poets Society. If you haven’t already, please seek out these groups and others like them. They are where the bloodied heart of literature is in this hour, and they need you.

One thing you can do to help is to review books that are more than a year old. Post about them, even briefly. We’re all trapped in the cycle of social media promo but what really gets people interested are thoughtful and nuanced reviews and conversations about books, rather than just ratings.

I'm looking for authors and author-wannabes of Middle Eastern heritage. By Middle Eastern I mean huge swathes of territory including Palestine, Egypt, Iraq--not even just one continent, right? And in re: heritage I'm talking both homebodies and diasporans. It's for a Middle Grade deal.

Read my haunted story about the perils of ethnographic research! Inspired by 19th century folklorists‘ accounts of fieldwork frustrations and the urban/rural divide 😅

Libraries are one of the most radical social institutions we have, because they’re based on the idea that *everyone* has the right to information, for free. It’s also what makes them crucial to democracy. I will never stop yelling about this!
