I wouldn’t want anyone around my kids who thinks he’s just the guy to make sure kids suffer because kids who don’t suffer are broken.

This exactly. This whole mindset of "people were abusive towards me as a kid so it's OK if I'm abusive towards kids now" needs to go away. Guaranteed, he has water and cold drinks and a neck fan and shade while insisting the kids can do it - and that a kid with heatstroke is just "lazy".
