Well, I know we had wind, but it must have been fiercer up higher on the mountain, cause we have a lot of massive broken branches at the top of the hill,, but nothing down here in the holler.
I'm OK with that.
The rain didn't make it that much cooler.

At least this is the first time so far that they've shot off fireworks around here.
They're blowing off some big stuff, so I'm hoping they spent all their cash on them and this will be over soon.
The dog hopes so too.

Yeah - I dig. We've not done fireworks since the kids were teens, but I did get to spend the evening with my eldest (she lives next door), eat good holiday food, and watch an episode of Fallout.
In fact, I think the last time we did fireworks was in 2008 or 9 in Como, Co and it was COLD out there.

Potato salad achieved. Now to succumb to the day's just wore out pace, and go sit in the cool, maybe doze for a while.
Nothing is getting done, and I'm not really giving a shit.

Was this the standard - "I was talking to _________, how dare you deign to address me, random follower of ___________" stuff?
I swear, some folks just don't understand how public posts work, and then they get even more nasty.

tis noon and I need to figure out how to make potato salad - I've not made it in 40 years, but the people who have to work today in the family requested it.
I've got potatoes - that's a good start, right?

To Americans, have a good day doing whatever you want to do.
Try not to blow yourselves up, burn anything down, not get heatstroke and in general not be the reason an ambulance, firetruck, police or coroner are called.
Yours sincerely, the folks staying home and doing nothing.

I really am truly thankful to be around and talking with people who have a healthy concern about the presidential exemptions ruling, and about Project 2025, and a whole lot less worried about the president's age.

Fellow historian of a more amateur status- a nice yell of "Calm TF down!" is required here.
I'm just going to be happy that the science experiments of the day went perfectly, and the local theater guild is going to put my historical millinery skills to use.
Sometimes, thinking small is best.

I would LOVE to live in boring times.
Can we please go back to boring times?
I know they've been short lived in the past, but a couple of years of boring times would hit the spot.

I filled my Amazon wishlist for the library with all the Dorrie books, and a whole bunch of family favorites from my kid's childhood and our childhoods.
The next generation needs these books too!

I've gotten too fond of these days off I've been taking for the last few weeks for "use it or lose it" vacation time; doing the things I want or need to do.
I love my job, but this is definitely an indicator I was heading toward burnout.

All by Patricia Coombs.
I absolutely loved this set as a kid. There's more, and I hope they reprint them all.
All kids need these very cool books.

I really am stupidly giddy over the fact that they've reprinted by childhood favorites.
Just to the point of nearly giggling and waving my arms about.

For me, it started 2001. Or really - 1991, when all my daughter's preschool friends were having nightmares because of the televised war. Preschoolers worrying about being bombed. Eesh.
And I'm much calmer now, because my kids are adults, and have chosen to not have kids.

Also found:
The Phantom Tollbooth
That Was Then, This is Now
And a long list of books to find out if they are all still available or not.
I know the Dorrie books by Patricia Coombs are not; the tiny library in the tiny town of Coal Valley, IL had them, so my kids got to read them too.

YA books found on the hidden bookcase:
The Outsiders
Go Ask Alice
Are You there God, It's Me, Margaret
I Never Loved Your Mind
All were mine. And then the kid's.
And one of my mom's - Cress Delahanty, which I loved as a preteen. First published 1945. Now I must reread it.

I'm impressed with myself; of the list of big things I must do today, I did 5 1/2 out of 5. Plus a number of small things!
And found out just how many of the children's books I kept; I need to go through for titles and see why I don't have some at the library.
And then they can fight over them.

Yes, this.
If it's that good, that well written, I basically devour the book. maybe not in two hours anymore (that was in my 30s) but if I finish it in a couple days or a week, you know I'm buying it, shelving it, and referring it to everyone.
