You know what’s fuckin’ wild? Growing up in a rural conservative area in the 80s, this flag was *everywhere*, as the Rambo-era propaganda tried to rewrite the Vietnam War. And I never knew, all that time, that there was never a single soldier held captive after the war! Not one! All these flags!

‘Rather than force Israel to comply with international law and address the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, the US and its regional allies, including Egypt, have launched a joint project to transport cargo on land as an alternative trade route to the Red Sea.’

"At this point, if you’re working for the State Department, you must be aware that you are helping to abet genocidal slaughter and ethnic cleansing. So please, enough with the anonymous quotes to journalists about how mad you are. Quit your goddamn job." www.discourseblog.com/p/hey-us-off...

"As a result [of Houthi operations], underwriters are seeking exclusions for vessels with links to the US, UK and Israel when issuing cover for trips through the area, according to Marcus Baker, global head of marine and cargo at Marsh. It essentially means they won’t provide insurance."

Great post on the recent takeover of Theory & Society. The changes appear to be more profit-driven than ideologically motivated, further highlighting the trend of market incentives and profit motives influencing the structure and content of academic knowledge. scatter.wordpress.com/2024/01/11/t...

Infuriating that no one, not even my fave FT, reported on South Africa's opening yesterday. They all waited on Israel to spew its bullshit self-exoneration in front of the court so they could report that.
