RE: the UK election, it's odd to see so many liberals and even a few people I respect saying Starmer's reign will be boring.
The UK has massive internal problems he refuses to fix, climate crisis ever worsening and the UK's ability to weather outside shocks all but gone. This'll be very interesting
The first thing he'll do is go to war with the unions - when he says he's going to make enemies for the economy nobody thinks he means the CBI or energy companies. A Labour PM fighting against worker's rights and the unions who fund his party is going to be anything but boring
There's also I think a belief that because a leader isn't showy it doesn't mean they won't do drastically harmful things.
But Mitch McConnell is a deeply bland and boring man and he has done so much deliberate harm and damage. Starmer is likely to be his UK version.
there's the "he'll turn left in government" thing and tbh I think he will but not because he wants to, but because there will be no choice. so would the Tories, having in the last government had to pay half the country's wages and massively subsidise fuel bills. everything is so broken now.
