In May ‘10 I was 39. I’d been at my still-current workplace for less than a year, though doing a very different job. And we were still reeling from the birth of our second child, nine months old at this point, and a huge shock to the system given how comparatively easy our eldest had been as a baby!

And really I don’t know where that next decade went! Things got better: she grew up, slowly; I had the career change that’s brought me to the success I enjoy now… but we struggled financially. Austerity, the loss of child tax credits, our childcare bill hitting £700pcm - a lot even back then…
