… to this day I’m funny about money. Exist in a state of denial about it: so much so that at one point a couple years back, I learned my salary was about £5k higher than I thought which I fully admit is an absurd way to operate.
But, TL;DR wish we could do it over: LAB-LIB coalition instead please!

And really I don’t know where that next decade went! Things got better: she grew up, slowly; I had the career change that’s brought me to the success I enjoy now… but we struggled financially. Austerity, the loss of child tax credits, our childcare bill hitting £700pcm - a lot even back then…

In May ‘10 I was 39. I’d been at my still-current workplace for less than a year, though doing a very different job. And we were still reeling from the birth of our second child, nine months old at this point, and a huge shock to the system given how comparatively easy our eldest had been as a baby!

Ronaldo is the Gul Dukat of football: very wide neck, and they just can’t seem to get rid of him.

They’ve put a lot of thought into the design: Sovereign-adjacent, so period appropriate; some advanced elements reminiscent of future designs like the Odyssey; and, Intrepid notes as a call-back. Just a shame there’s a lack of consistency in sizing: 800m? REALLY? 29 or 32 decks - both excessive IMO.

A strange thing about doing this job for a long time is you spend most of election night in a state of extreme tension going “god, Jim has lost his seat, how sad”. Then the next evening the new government makes a great and humane appointment to prisons minister you go “oh! I’m happy Jim lost”.

Between Trump trying to distance himself from Project 2025, the Tories getting wiped out, and this shit, maybe the world isn't as ready and comfortable for authoritarianism to take over as the media would like you to believe

With a 412 majority and sufficient support (Lib Dems, Greens?) they could easily get the two-thirds HoC vote to start the Levenson 2 process, which would reign in the press admirably. But there are more immediate concerns right now, and remains to be seen how bold the Starmer govt. will actually be…

Probably get the reply “It’s Caturday somewhere” (and at 1932z on a Friday, he wouldn’t be wrong!). 😉

I know nothing about PLAN 9 FROM OUTER SPACE. I don't know the murderous aliens behind it, particularly Xarzon, who is a good friend. Anything they do, including raising the dead to destroy humanity, I wish them luck. But it has nothing to do with me.
Hail Xarzon.

That’s OK, I’m often over-defensive! 😉
Yeah, it’s all a nightmare. I just can’t even bring myself to consider how it all might go in November. It’s a cosmic irony that after nearly a decade, we might be regaining some semblance of sanity in the UK - just as the rest of the world goes to pot… 🤦♂️

Easy to see from this chart that the combined right vote (con+Rfm/Brx/UKIP) collapsed to its worst performance by far in recent elections. 6pts lower than the next worst outing in 2017. Zero enthusiasm for this stuff.

My favourite factoid for how crazy things have been since 2016: Larry has now seen 6 prime ministers, which is over ⅓ of Elizabeth II's 15. Elizabeth II is the longest reigning monarch in British history. Larry is a cat.

The BBC’s “Seats Changed” map is wild. You can now walk from the coast of North Devon up to Bicester and then down to Eastbourne without ever leaving newly Lib Dem seats.

Worth remembering, for the next five years, that the Tory party rules ASSUME they'll have a large number of sitting MPs.
e.g. to automatically start a leadership context only 15% of tory MPs have to put in letters.
15% of 130ish seats is... not a lot.
