So, Sir Elton John got his title for projecting a positive image of the uk across the world. Meanwhile, tory donors basically buy the honorific with their donations. Neither example became nobles. Think of it as the uk equivalent of the Presidential Medal of Honour. 😀

We don't really bend over backwards to recognize that someone got a presidential medal of freedom either. It's fodder for people's bio and that's about it

I understand what you are saying, but do you understand that these kinds of fussy titles and honorifics are the specific thing we don't like, regardless of whether they were bestowed by birth or by our most foundationally hated of institutions (monarchy)?
