Hey, Karl's pointing out that Republicans saying the quiet part out loud in their platform; they're promising to legislate queer and BIPOC people out of existence, while deporting anyone who isn't white, cis, and conservative enough.
Not "try to," but actively do it.

So yeah, I got LOTS of reasons to be angry about this and laughing that the person I quoted seems to have blocked me for doing so. Neato. :P

P.S. I was literally threatened with being put on the registry, as a trans woman who was a victim as a child, in a conservative state YEARS ago for the crime of being a parent to my child.
When the grandparents kidnapped my kid though? Not even a thought of a charge.

I ain't got time for all that. Sorry if replies hit feeds on here, I legit don't know how that works on BlueSky. But I lack the time or energy to argue against a wall with a 300 character limit.

P.S. Ever met someone accused of a crime they didn't commit?Forced to take plea deals as they can't afford to defend themselves?
I, a trans woman, faced threats of that "tier 3" for PICKING UP MY CHILD FOR VISITATION. The "fun" of living in a conservative state for a bit.

I want less folks like me and you to have stories to tell. This "imperfect" system is terrible and needs a damn overhaul. To what? I already posted that I don't have a perfect answer. Just that the current method potentially keeps people even less safe than they think, especially the marginalized.

To top it all off, imagine a person can't find housing basically anywhere, is shunned from every community they try to find space in, has basically zero chance of finding employment.
That'll sure stop recidivism! Oh wait, it likely INCREASES IT creating more victims.

I speak for people fucked over by a system they are unfairly placed in. Perhaps dig into how the registry is also used to abuse marginalized people and come back to chat.
As it stands, "it isn't perfect" ruins many innocent people's lives too.

You think laws can't just be fucked with at a moment's notice? Look at the supreme court right now. Republicans count a LOT of things as "porn" and being "sexual" these days. These laws will be turned against people as they sprout up.

It's been illegal to wear "male clothes" as a woman. Hell, it was illegal to be out in public as a disabled person in the United States as late as 1974. Your parents were probably alive then, hell, you might have been. I don't know you.

Hey, did you know the justice system is always fair and always prosecutes correctly and folks never try to push for the most harsh sentencing possible even using lies to do so?
Cuz as a victim, I sure as hell wish I lived in the world you're living in.

I don't know what the solution should be to help actually keep dangerous folks away from kids or the like, but the registry isn't it. When you start letting folks make lists of undesirables, you can be added to it at any moment. And that's a VERY bad thing.

Did you have sex with your same sex underage partner while also underage? You can be put on the registry FOR LIFE. Just like with prisons, BIPOC folks are found on the registry more.
It forces people we should keep an eye on or could use help further into the dangerous parts of the margins too.

Time for a bold take: The Sex Offender Registry is already heavily weaponized against marginalized people, especially queer people.
When we allow laws and police to abuse parts of the population, they will continue to escalate.
