oh no, Furiosa didn't make the warner bros CEOs happy on opening weekend!! this will surely break the heart of George Miller, the 79-year-old director of the 45-year-old five-movie saga that has been his life's work to create without compromise

It's not wrong to map out a complicated logical "magic system" nor is it wrong to eschew one. But I suggest if you think "reader must understand" means "Magic System (TM)" you might want to reconsider. Your choices are actually limitless.

For weird and random reasons, thinking about "how magic works has to be clear for stakes to be clear" and, on the one hand, yes, true. Ish. (every guideline for art is only trueISH) The thing is, there are different ways to communicate "how magic works" to the reader.

I feel like the Turing test has a lot to answer for. It seems less like a test and more like a statement of paradigmatic failure. Like “We got no idea how you’d measure this, but if you can’t tell the difference, then fuck it. Close enough.”

Some "A.I." images of Tolkien illustrations in the style of Byzantine iconography are making the rounds on the Other Site, so I want to highlight Jay Johnstone, a real person who makes real Byzantine-inspired Tolkien art with his real human creativity!

Oh and btw the solution to "not everyone has the time to dedicate to art, you classist" is not "AUTOMATE ALL THE THINGS AND DON'T PAY ARTISTS" it's "VALUE ALL LABOR SO THAT PEOPLE ARE PAID FAIRLY AND CAN LIVE AND MAKE ART IF THEY WANT YOU FUCKING ASSHOLE"

"Kopf an Kopf bei der Auszählung" ist eh n spannendes Konstrukt. Die Auszählung definiert sich ja irgendwie darüber, dass es kein belastbares Ergebnis gibt bevor sie durch ist. Ist dann die Kopfhöhe maßgeblich über die zufällige Reihenfolge des Zettel Auffaltes definiert?

One of my favorite things about world building is when there is a question you never thought about before but you intuitively know the plausible answers and can narrow down which ones make sense in an instant.
