interesting, I've moved continents twice (once as a baby with my family and then alone as an adult) but in between grew up in the same house for about two decades. wonder how much of my orientation is just a determined reaction to that stability

it's funny, I often feel a very strong impulse to travel, visit new places, and while that impulse mostly has broad cultural approval I tend to think it speaks to my own deficiencies lol. can't be satisfied where I am...

god how annoying. very cool that he presents generally accepted positions (human intervention is necessary for a lot of conservation work) as if they are brave truth telling, and describes a few anti-GMO groups as unreasonable Luddite maniacs that represent the field as a whole

I suppose generally this sort of inequality is mediated in ways that obfuscate and allow people not to think about the direct relationships between the richest and the poorest. Trophy hunting is not more evil than dirty heavy metal mining, it's just more blatant

Reading arguments saying that trophy hunting might be a regrettable necessity makes me feel insane. I appreciate the bind poor countries are in regarding finding resources for conservation, but that the best solution is apparently letting some rich psychos kill elephants feels incredibly damning
