And, some footnotes later, another article of mine quoted alongside Drayton and David Motadel's "The Futures of Global History”!!! 😲 I'm so in disbelief that I've even stopped giggling... (This made my month! It really did!)

For those interested, the mentioned article can be found here: (It won the Contemporary European History Prize 2019 -- this is only the second time I brag about it this month and June is almost over! 😉)

I was skimming through Martin Thomas's The End of Empires and a World Remade: A Global History of Decolonization, and now I can't stop giggling like a 3-year old. Made my day!

Every time I come across a call for a fellowship in a German University, I wonder whether Germans forget there is a contraction rate of about 30% from German to English-language texts or are just crazy. (I hope for the former, but I fear the latter.)

Dear colleagues, Amy King and I just published an OpEd in TIME on the centennial of Giacomo Matteotti's murder in June 1924, which precipitated Benito Mussolini's declaration of dictatorship in January 1925. Enjoy. And please share widely.

Last Tuesday, President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa said Portugal “takes full responsibility” for the wrongs of the past, and that the country’s crimes, including colonial massacres, had costs... but he did not provide a full apology.

A study on what many of us already know: over 75% of internal service work in academia is done by women. The bit that gets me:”The male associate professors in particular made it clear that they actively engaged in evasiveness and did not want to participate if it was not positive for their careers”

I proposed a session for an event for historians (academics or not) that is basically creating stories about “characters” of whom I find only glimpses in my archival research, and reflecting together on how (or if) this exercise of historical imagination can help us understand the past.

That album brings me back memories too! I had just moved to London for a year at UCL when it came out. I used to listen to it on the train to Euston all the time! (Coincidentally, tomorrow I'll be travelling to the UK for the first time since that academic year.)
