According to Democratic wisdom since 1980, if a sitting President wants to run for re-election, you don't run against them. Reportedly Bernie flirted with the idea in 2012 and Reid talked him out it. Part of the vitriol against him in 2016 I would imagine. His audacity needed to be punished.

Yet suggesting that a contested primary would be good for voter enthusiasm and turnout to my Democratic friends in 2022 had some of them furious with me. A few leapt to the conclusion I wanted Bernie to ruin things for them again.

Yeah we didn't have a real one of those because despite hundreds of warning signs everyone pretended like Biden was an amazing candidate. Now half a year later when he's -7 in PA according to Dem internal polling we've got three, maybe four weeks to replace Biden for a three month campaign.
