1066 words this morning! Not on the Battle of Hastings, sadly (though why isn’t there been a movie of that? Or has there??)

Blown away by this amazing 5-star review for The End of Dragons from Fantasy Book Nerd!
"A page-turning piece of fantasy and there were many times I was both laughing out loud and gasping at the twists and turns in the book..."

Catching up on Glastonbury after a hectic weekend. Faves so far: Last Dinner Party (guitarist Emily Roberts plays note-perfect solos), Michael Kiwanuka (genius), and Janelle Monae giving it a bit of Midsommar…

I’m not much of a football fan, but have loved every minute of Welcome to Wrexham. As a portrait of a community rediscovering its identity and pride it’s unbeatable.

RIP to an absolute legend. I know he made better films, but Oddball in Kelly’s Heroes is one of my favourite movie characters of all time…

I missed this one first time around. I know Meg Ryan got a lot of flack for being the least convincing helicopter pilot in movie history, but she gives the Rashomon thing some subtle touches. Skinny Matt Damon has a star making turn, and Denzel… well, Denzel is a god amongst men, isn’t he?

Tonight's Livestream has been bumped to Friday 21st due to "lurgification" -- both me and Julian have been ill, and you really don't want to listen to us coughing for an hour... Or do you? No, didn't think so. Sorry about tonight, but will see you Friday! www.youtube.com/live/bFX32A-...

Just magnificent on the big screen. The odd number curse was always hooey. This is classic stuff. Worth it for the James Horner score alone.

Epic stuff and with more of a focus on Toranaga and the warlords than the Richard Chamberlain version, though Anna Sawai is the brilliant beating heart of the story as Mariko. A second season is rumoured. It’ll be interesting to see where they take it after this.

And how frustrating must it have been to watch his mentee George create his own cinematic utopia with the money from his Flash Gordon knock offs?! Still, his heart was in the right place.

A curious book that covers the rise and fall of Coppola’s Zoetrope Studios. The book is utterly convinced of Coppola’s genius, but what becomes clear is that if he’d just listened more to his wife Eleanor he might not have made so many costly mistakes >>

Hit Man on Netflix is a treat. Smart and sexy and delightfully dark. Linklater and Powell have taken a sort-of true story and twisted it into a narrative about identity. Highly recommended.

For those of you who prefer their books in paperback flavour, work is coming along nicely for THE END OF DRAGONS. Alejandro Colucci has kindly put this together for me and I love it. No pre-order link yet, but watch this space...

Got an invite to see Unicorns, a movie about a South Asian drag queen who meets a mechanic from Essex. Funny and moving it’s definitely worth seeing on the big screen. There are screenings throughout Pride month.

Much better than I expected. A genuinely good prequel! And so many great faces in the cast. By that I mean, big eyes, weird smiles, impressive noses. Really unsettling. The human face is the best special effect. Really good sound design too.
