I doubt anyone would dispute that there are risks, as there always have been. I was worried the whole day of the debate about precisely what happened, but at that point I didn't think he should drop out.

I think that's a little unfair; I know you've worked campaigns, decisions are not made off the cuff and any decision like this is going to weigh *which specific* tactics are used at least as much as whether or not to do them, as well it should. If he can't do it, they wouldn't even weigh it.
