One of my favorite science fiction films is on TCM right now. The Day the Earth Stood Still. We are almost the same age. I remember the night I first saw it on Saturday Night at the Movies, the day of the rained-out total eclipse the day before my birthday in 1963.

You know what's crazy is you could easily write a historically compelling op-ed about how Trump should end his campaign because he's a convicted criminal who tried to overthrow the government and is only on the ballot/out of prison because of extremely corrupt judges he personally appointed

It never ceased to amaze my sister what Republicans thought free to say at one of their events which she attended while doing some sort of election-based work in Iowa. If she was there, she must have been one of them, and all the vile, racist, sexist crap tripped lightly from their tongues. Awful.

One of my college profs said it is in someways perhaps more accurate than some sources because it records all of the things that went wrong for the Jews. But, it is largely agrarian fantasy and I expect that the ACLU will file an injunction in 4,3,2,1.

I have that one signed and framed. Read Little Fuzzy for the first time move than 50 years ago. Bought multiple copies of the large format kids book Michael and David Wenzel did to give as gifts to nieces and nephews and other babies.

There’s a rash of crap going around, like adding a certain editor’s name to Len Wein’s creation of Wolverine and some other characters, expecting no one will notice, I bet. People notice and know a lie when they see it.

Why are people such idiots. I’ve never had s problem with removing shoes. It SOP in some cultures, and not a bad one to adopt.

Yes, the books which add things about culture and history are fun to read. I am cooking from Night + Market, which is a Thai restaurant here in L.A., but the book is also about his (the restauranteur’s) family and his story.

Like I do with my cookbooks, I suspect you actually use a number of your guitars. They aren’t just dust catchers like the Teddy bears were.

Also, I organized and managed a cookbook book club which started 8 years ago. I am constantly looking for books to use which cover all aspects of a meal, and we have had some truly great meals over the years. Deep Run Roots is our next book. I’m considering a Japanese home cooking book to follow it.

The biggest group is for Italian food, my own ethnic background, followed by Middle-Eastern and other areas of the Mediterranean. I’m a completist of Ottolenghi, Ina Garten, Melissa Clark, Nik Sharma, Andrea Nguyen, Marcella Hazen, Lidia Bastianich. Lots of Chinese, Indian. I do cook eclectically.

People did the same with teddy bears with Len. Before the house fire there were so damned many of them. Having two of something does not mean you collect them. Ten of something you buy for yourself might suggest it. I have over 1200 cookbooks. It’s fair to say I collect them.

It used to be that you could count on justices appointed by the right to actually grow into their positions to be less partisan. That’s how you got the Warren Court that right-wingers hate. It seems to have ended with Clarence Thomas and the nightmare Federalist Society holding sway.

My first photo in the Washington Post was from a then 25+-year-old, fixed lens, Kodak Retina. It was the camera I was carrying in my purse that day. It’s not the camera, it is the brain of the photographer. Or f/8 and be there, on the right day.

I do not want pay for your own adventure. If I rewatch a movie, it’s because I LIKED IT THE FIRST TIME. AI does not have the fucking creativity that would make a bad movie work, and I’m not shelling out money a second time for something I did not like the first time. Let AI do the dishes.

I’m not sure who did it. I know it’s the first panel that shows Wolverine in Hulk 180, which is Herb Trimpe over John Romita, Sr., I think it is Hugh in a publicity still or magazine cover from early in his run, and it’s Len in the last few years of his life when he became so painfully thin.

My dogs love poached chicken, which they also get when they are ill and as a special treat. I swear Logan can smell it from the far reaches of the house when there’s chicken breasts in the steam oven. It’s like I’m cooking crack for him.

Probably true, but even the plump ones continue to dry, depending on the container. I’ve been using glass jars with rubber gaskets for years in my pantry and they are really good for storage like dried fruit.

Delighted to celebrate Joe Haldeman’s 81st birthday last night in Pasadena with Joe, Gay, and Michael and Cindy Cassutt. I think I first saw Joe at a Disclave around 1979 and immediately went in search of The Forever War. (Photo of Joe Haldeman, Michael Cassutt, and Gay Haldeman at dinner.)

I am sad we do not see them here. It was the one thing I hoped to see when I was back east 5 years ago, and I did in my friends’ back yard in Cleveland. But I saw none in my area of the Catskills. Did not see them in the Carolinas this week either.

I am in Myrtle Beach/Ocean Isle for another family wedding & my sister & I hit up a few antique shops. She was the one who noticed the Trump swag in one show case & said under her breath “we are not buying from this dealer.” I did not see prices, but I do hope the artificial value tanked at 5PM.

Remembering my favorite curmudgeon and PITA, Harlan Ellison, on what would have been his 90th birthday. I miss hearing him answer the phone with “Yeah?” and the great messages he changed daily on his answering machine. He was high maintenance, but the person you wanted to have your back. Miss him.

My sister has never read the books. She liked the first film, but thought the second dragged and she hated how it ended. I, apparently, fell asleep during the many battles. Still better than earlier versions. I love Zendaya, and agree with your assessment. Sis thought the movie was for teen boys.
