This is not to say that this attack was not in bad faith but to highlight that American academia is far more lenient on academic dishonesty than other Western countries and certainly more lenient than it should be.

Germany: Defense Minister Guttenberg was found to have plagiarized massive sections of his doctoral work and Education Minister Schavan was found to have "presented intellectual performance that in reality she did not generate herself". Both PhDs were revoked

I wrote a bit about this yesterday but while I get wanting to leave Substack (mostly because I share the urge) it might be most helpful to creators and maximally harmful to Substack to wait until the creators move—because then you're not just removing your money but sending it to a competitor.

I know I should be embarrassed to say so, but after finding my first Michael Chabon book (Yiddish Policemen) in Fiumicino after racing through the book I brought for a trip, I peruse every airport bookstore. I have a Kindle, but paper is still king.

If you’re still on Twitter because it has better sports coverage or something, maybe read this and take a long hard look in the mirror

Oddly enough, I find, with very little exception, that the big blue check accounts that I followed on Twitter have an even worse case of Main Character Syndrome here. Sadly, it seems that there is a lot of monologuing and precious little dialoguing here.

Truly, your feed has become a Black hole of stupidity where President Biden controls the Israeli government and Hamas didn't massacre civilians (including babies) on 10/7. Goddammit, this app is more full of self-righteous lefties than Twitter. Horseshoe theory, useful idiots, mumble, mumble...

I made the mistake of figuring out who kicked this all of and blocked a user for the first time on bsky. I am not as formally educated as most of the people I follow, but I have managed not to be a complete dumbass. Man. Not normal.

Audio Technica ANC is the best for the money. Up against Bose, I was unable to notice a difference. Pair it with a loud white noise machine for $20 from Amazon or some nonsense. I had drilling here into concrete walls from February to August and was able to work (academic editing). Godspeed scribe!

It doesn't matter. They will do or not do whatever they want. They don't respect boundaries or deadlines. Context: I am an academic editor. I cannot tell you how many master's theses and doctoral dissertations have come to my desk with "Urgent! Due next week." in the email from the agency.

We had one Panasonic for 20 years. We bought a second. It had to go to the shop right away, but they were fast and unproblematisch about it.
