Ah interesting, so it's not the same people who work at the polling station throughout the day. I was an election official in Hungary one time, and we had to be there from before 6 AM until we counted and reported all the ballots around 3 AM the next day.

Damn, that is long. Here in the US in my state the polls are open from 6am to 8pm so poll workers (like me) would sign up for either a half day or whole day shift from 5am - 9pm. We use scanners here though.

There might be some crossover. People sign up to do the evening one for extra pay (I believe) but as you note, that’s a really long day!
