I did speak to someone at ConEd, who incidentally also lives in Queens and is having the same problem, so it’s good to know I am not losing my mind. But if ConEd plans on doing this all summer then they can also plan on me not paying them

I had original recipe back in March 2020. It was scary. Then I somehow caught it again in 2022. Both left me with a hodgepodge of long covid symptoms. So I’ll be wearing a mask on public transit and in public places until I die, I guess 🫠

Uncooked rice is actually ok for them to eat, but certainly not in such huge quantities, and it’s not the best option. And again, they are good at finding their own food if we leave them to it . . . Sigh.

We currently have a mallard with angel wing in Central Park - this pretty boi. Rangers are aware, and he seems to be doing ok for the time being. He is always seen hanging out with his buddies. But he can’t fly :( 🪶🦆

I say all this as someone who always used to bring the leftover hotdog buns and ends of bread to the park to feed the ducks when I was a kid. I didn’t know then, but now I do so it’s my mission to be annoying about it 😌🪶

Also! Feeding ducks and geese habituates them to human interaction/reliance on humans for food, which also puts them at risk. They are very good foragers, and they learn this from a very early age 🪶

Anyway, please do not feed bread to ducks & geese, especially the babies. It’s not good for them, and can lead to a condition called angel wing, where their wings grow incorrectly, rendering them unable to fly. Best not to feed them at all, but if you must: peas, lettuce, corn, and oats are fine 🪶

The red-tailed hawk trio at the NYAC nest yesterday morning 🪶🪶🪶 One of them fledged just a couple hours after I took these photos - to a tree right across the street in Central Park 😄
