There are so many things wrong with this. Please excuse me while I rip out my eyes and scream.

I've never heard of him or any of the adaptations, so I had to look this up, but it seems unlikely unless some translator made it their personal mission I think.

Spent the day catching up on the latest volumes of My Dress-Up Darling while avoiding the heat and I swear, if these kids don't end up happy, books will fly. They truly deserve the world. I absolutely adore them and can't wait to see where they end up. I am extremely invested.

I'm currently going through my manga shelf in alphabetical order in an attempt to get it under control (aka deal with some of my tsundoku problem) and I'm currently on F authors, so should definitely be this year at least! 😂

I bought the Japanese edition when it came out and though I haven't read it yet, it's really well put together! Excited for when I finally get to it.

I find weighing oneself daily helps answer these questions, though there is a potential for that to be more stress and hassle than it's worth depending on the person 😅

Interesting! This is the first year I've actually had any problems with dryness (thank you immune system for eating things you aren't supposed to eat), so I might have to look into this more 🤔

I really need to start this, but I promised myself I'd read the stuff collecting dust on my shelf first and it's taking so long 😭

This book is a kind of summary of issues facing Japan's immigration system told through the lens of Wishma Sandamali's death while in detention in 2021, reported by several Mainichi Shimbun reporters.
Yet another example of how the powerful deny others their humanity. It chilled me to my bones.

Wouldn't the dry setting make it worse? I *need* the humidity. Dry is the opposite of what I want. Even on the normal setting at a very modest 28C setting with the weakest options available, someone might as well be pouring literal sand directly into my eyeballs as far as they're concerned.

Definitely only leave your house between the hours of like 7PM-10AM weather. Absolutely awful.
Very glad I got my humidifier today so I don't have to worry about blinding myself (severe dry eye) using my AC while I hide from the climate...

Finally ordered a humidifer so I can hopefully use my AC with causing physical damage to my eyes. My dry eyes really can't handle it 😭

Oh, definitely. Canadian healthcare is an embarassment, but it doesn't take much to be even a little bit better than the U.S. in a general sense.

The healthcare part though lol
I grew up in rural NS and the local ER is only open a few days a week from like 9-3 now because there are no doctors to staff the department and no family doctors mean everyone uses the ER for everything. I would be in a very bad place indeed if I were still there 😅

(Thank you nearly 10 years in Tokyo for providing me with the knowledge and experience to think of this on a smouldering 28C morning.)

Chickens have more personality than you might expect. My mother bought some laying hens when I was in high school and they very quickly became beloved pets. We didn't even collect the eggs 😅

This author really is a lot of fun! I read a short story collection of theirs in Japanese a few months ago and this one is also available. Would be very happy to see their work find an audience in English too :)

Also the idea that Canada is going to save anyone from American politics of this nature is so laughable that I have to fight the urge to launch myself into the sun every time I hear it...😅
If being a Canadian abroad has taught me anything, it's the power of "Canada is nice" propoganda...

I first flew into Tokyo in September 2015 and when I left Halifax it was like 10C (at most). Got off the plane in Tokyo *many* hours later and it was over 30C. Not sure how I survived honestly 😂

I decided in May that I wanted to track my time reading to see how much of my time was spent on it and how I was dividing my time beteeen langauges.
The May trial showed me just how fast small chunks of time add up and this was my result for June. Really interesting results for my first full month.

It really was fascinating from a translation perspective, but I did also leave the book feeling rather angry about the state of the world too.

Babel by R.F. Kuang stands out in particular, along with The Mountain Sings by Nguyễn Phan Quế Mai. The three books in Japanese I got through this month were also quite thought provoking!
