They didn't even have THE SUBSTANCE OF FIRE as an option yesterday.

As Nate Dogg is my witness, I would argue that David Zaslav is in dire need of regulation.

This is pretty devastating. Also, uh, wanna run, George? (I can say with a fairly high degree of certainty that he does not and will never.)

Between this and Cinematrix not having THE SUBSTANCE OF FIRE in its movie database, not a stellar puzzle day.

BURGERTIME's only real flaw. (This reminds me of my hometown's long-shuttered greasy spoon, where you were never sure if your eggs had been dusted with pepper or cigarette ash from the chain-smoking cook.)

I love this movie. Oddball Tom DiCillo indie comedy starring John Turturro, Sam Rockwell, Catherine Keener and Lisa Blount. Got dumped into art houses over the summer of 1997 and quickly disappeared. Delighted to see Soraya Roberts spreading the "off the grid" gospel at Defector.

This is true. She just falls into a shtick rut. My biggest issue is that, outside of the first scene, there's no danger in the first act. That movie needs an Alex Kintner.

My Solomonic view is that NYT—perhaps the president’s primary persecutor recently—showed its whole ass with this swiss-cheese Parkinson’s specialist story. It’s blatantly copied from right-wing charlatans, unvetted. And a nimbler White House and campaign would be making it pay dearly for that.

Left-wing parties banded together in France, even though they disagree over many policies, to push down the fascist right-wingers and keep them from power. It's a template of sorts for what we should do come November.

Got 90 mins into Ron Shelton's DARK BLUE last night (first viewing since '04) and thought I'd found an underrated B movie ripe for reappraisal. Then that badge ceremony happened. Can't remember if that was Ellroy's original ending, but a film that rough deserved a nastier finale. Kurt's great tho.

And it wasn't an it's-his-time career achievement Emmy either - though I'm not sure if that happens as often with the Emmys as it does with the Oscars. (Also, holy crap, not a single nom for P&R???)

I love Quatermass. Nigel Kneale viewing the space race through a Lovecraftian lens is very much my jam. This is Kneale in Matheson territory, but have you ever seen THE STONE TAPE? We probably wouldn't have PRINCE OF DARKNESS without it.

DELIRIOUS didn't get a theatrical release, but this, inexplicably, did! (Which I'll never forget because I got an email every day for several months alerting me to this fact and would I like to interview anyone/everyone associated with it not named Vince Vaughn.)

I did this a lot. My white whale was Krokus' "Screaming in the Night," a 6-min power ballad w/ no radio edit. 40-sec gutair-and-wind-fx opening kept it out of heavy rotation. Finally caught it on Detroit's WLLZ (98.7). Heard it starting over the outro of "Flight of Icarus" and smashed "record"!

I'm wherever on all of this, but did Biden's team explicitly refer to it as a "grim ultimatum" or words specifically to that effect? If not, this ain't "breaking news". It's punditry.

I, uh, got it it in one. Stunned because I didn't review it, and thought it was a disappointment given the talent involved. First I've thought of it since the crix screening. Perhaps I was more let down than I realized.

I will revisit this weekend, but my current position is that Towne did Fante's ASK THE DUST hot-blooded justice. I think it's the best thing he ever directed, and richly deserving of a critical reappraisal (it got beat up in '06, though I know Rosenbaum was a fan).
