what are we doing here? he accidentally said million instead of billion and then immediately knew it and corrected himself. he didn’t “flub a line” and then “make an effort to correct himself,” he did the speaking equivalent of a typo that you know you’ve made and instantly correct
oh yeah that's terrible let me check in on if the other candidate does better *looks* OMFG NO THAT'S WORSE DOES EVERYONE GET HOW TRUMP FLUBS ARE SO MUCH WORSE
I think people made too much of the debate performance being entirely a media invention.
But this kind of thing is exactly why it’s not crazy. No sane person watching someone speak holds that against them. This kinda shit *is* pure media invention.
It’s bullshit. It’s nonsense.
Meanwhile, Trump flubs constantly and not only doesn’t correct himself but then defends the flub as being correct or being interchangeable with the correct statement.
Oh you didn't see the new updated DSM?
Says that if you ever do this, and go back and correct a verbal flub, you're to be committed to an insane asylum. It's a sign of early onset insanity. Sorry, can only choose from unicorn candidates now.
He didn't "make an effort to correct himself" he LITERALLY corrected himself immediately
(Unlike Trump who still stands by thinking electricity is affected by sunshine)
I truly hate these motherfuckers. I have never hated anyone in my life, but I hate these fucking assholes with the heat of 1,000 suns. I hope every single one of them suffers excruciating muscle spasms in the middle of the night for the rest of their lives.
I wonder how young Chris was the first time he walked into a room, paused and asked himself, "Why did I come in here?" And if he claims he never has, he's lying.
I really get Fetterman/Oz flashbacks in the last few days.
I’m uncommitted on what Biden/other people in positions with leverage ought to do but some of this feels like mediacratic overreach
Trump would say that he got NATO allies to cut a check to the US for eleventy katrillion dollars and the press would be like “Trump reiterates challenge to NATO members to increase funding”
If I submitted that text as copy to this outlet in an interview it would be cleaned up in a way that would actually make me feel embarrassed to have turned it in as such
wow sure would be cool if the Paper of Record let us know if, say, this was a true statement or not! might be relevant in the election! but who can say
The reason it's getting extra focus is because we all watched the debate and saw what an average Biden sentence looks like. You can't retcon that. If every other sentence includes a correction it's a theme, not a one-off mistake.
I fully approve this level of scrutiny for mistakes like this. The next time the NYT prints a typo, the entire paper should be immediately shutdown. Them’s the rules.
Tbf, that was obviously a normal mess up in real time, but he had some very strange meander about Kamala that isn't mentioned in the coverage at all. This billion/trillion thing was not even close to a real fuck up but a couple other moments were.....weird.
