I went to the dentist today for the first time since before COVID. the hygienist and dentist were both wearing masks, and I don't have any cavities nor did I throw up on anyone. mark that down as a personal win.

living by myself during the first few years (🫠) of the pandemic has made my tendency to isolate even worse. it's also hard to still try to avoid reinfection and not just hide from the hot humid weather and bugs and smells of nyc! it's a sensory nightmare.

after Alice Munro died, I delved into a big collection of hers. it was unlocking lots of ideas about writing and structure in my brain, then it was due back at the library. we're all fallible, but I don't want to learn how to write from such a person. Wishing her daughter all the love and healing.

Same. There was a moment when it felt like getting the attention of an editor on Twitter could be a career breakthrough -- job, agent, etc. And I made friends there too! and it was crucial for local news as it happened.

the nurse taking my vitals couldn't understand why I wanted her to use a forehead thermometer. She assured me they use covers for the mouth thermometer. then she told me I could take my mask off while she was drawing a ton of blood so I could breathe better. 🫠
