Goat is delicious. You've reminded me of a tremendously odd argument I had with a colleague from Hyderabad who was adamant that "mutton" was always goat.

I don't think it's a taboo per se, I have never seen it for sale anywhere, and I think people think it may be unappealing without having tried it, but I don't think it rises to a level of taboo like it would be for horse or dog or guinea pig

We have an entire restaurant here (Stephani Izard’s Girl and the Goat and its offshoots) that specializes in goat. It’s good! (And this comes from someone who abhors goat cheese). (Also, goat biryani in India was fab)

I disagree with her characterization of it as a taboo. We just don't like it. There's no cultural attachment to goats that put them out of bounds, we just tend to avoid really gamey meat (see also: venison, which some people really love but is not commonly eaten for similar reasons).
