It's a bit like physics, where we can practically assume the reality of things at the macro level, but at the micro level, quantum probability means nothing is certain. Or maybe endogeneity is a better way to think of it. There's solidity to language that guides us, but we also change language.

I think we always need to make assumptions, but we should also try to always be aware of the fact we are doing so and be ready to change them if they're contradicted.
