A good friend of mine has struggled 20+ years with a gambling addiction. It's a predatory industry all the way down. If people want to bet on sports, fine, but I don't see the state interest in protecting the integrity of this shit. And we see how the NBA treats actual violence.

Plausible. I can see the Republicans trying to rebrand themselves back to their pro-business, low tax, country club roots and joining Dems to crush any movement to the left. Which I guess could spawn a substantial fascist party in the schism.

Maybe I'm getting ahead of myself a bit, but if everyone to the left of Nancy "we need a strong Republican Party" Pelosi agrees that Repubs are no longer a legitimate political party in our democratic-ish system, are we just going to be a one party state? Because that doesn't sound awesome.

Maybe I should have said "late malaise." I've never had a proper definition, just going off of vibes (square, wire wheel hubcaps, vinyl roof). I defer to your greater insight. My grandfather had an '83 Olds 98 with a gutless carb'd 305, very malaise-y, wire hubcaps, vinyl roof.

This basic inability to simply build shit is the predictable result of financializing all the the things, and is negatively affecting every level of the economy, both in the public and private sectors (which largely overlap with so much infrastructure outsourced and privatized).
