It’s his Scientology connection that has made me cautious. You don’t grow up in a cult without being scarred, and Scientology has been known (allegedly) to shelter “bad men” in many ways, but especially through auditing.

If you did not like it because it is brutal and cruel and reflects our racism and unkindness to others, then probably not. This book looks directly at those things while putting them on a school playground - perhaps one of the cruelest places in the world.

I’ve started reading romance recently and it really makes a difference on trope, sub genre, and author. My favorite is Romantic Comedy by Curtis Sittenfeld, but it is not fantasy or Catholic! What about the books by Rebecca Yarros or Sarah Maas? I think they are very popular.

Agree. There doesn’t seem to be as much engagement here as on Twitter (barely on Facebook & am not on Threads) but I can’t justify supporting a white supremacist. Moreover, if one makes a living by writing words, I can’t imagine continuing to support people who openly steal your words to make money.

Yes, it delved into the publishing industry and the way it’s hard for women to be taken seriously. There’s a running joke about publishing industry publicists that seemed right on the money. The book just came out this week. Armstrong clearly loves the Yukon.

I know I was a literary snob for many years but have recently started reading romance. It’s largely a women’s genre written for and by women, and that’s probably why it’s been scoffed at for years despite being a billion dollar industry. (I find it often tackles heavy topics.)
