Sometimes I think about the ancient Chinese concept of the "dynastic cycle," and how you can tell an empire is about to collapse when its rulers no longer display personal moral virtue, corruption is rampant in the imperial court, and natural disasters see a dramatic rise.

That surely applies to the LDP in Japan for some time now. A string of mostly weak PMs, Abe's absurd killing by means of a home-made gun, the Moonie influence, the silly and brain-dead ploys to boost fertility -- all the makings of tragic farce. But we still have great package delivery.
