What the heck, I'm going to double down: Yes, I also think the people who love to say I told you so are asses, but then again it's valid to criticise and mock the assumption that a super rich powerful famous person would be without serious flaws in behaviour and character. Am I wrong?

i'm young and pretty and tall and outwardly look good at standing/short walks and i use a rollator and it fucking rocks: i can take instant sitting breaks as often as i need; it's extra support; and i get a basket for carrying shit. i hope my being out in the world helps shift perceptions a bit.

I just. The work of showing people how ableism is real and how their "everyday harmless status quo normal" beliefs and attitudes and behaviors are actually harmful can be like pulling teeth. Ableism is /so/ foundational. Folks will just straight-faced be like "but that /does/ make someone lesser."

I understand how it's annoying to see people coming out now with their "Neil Gaiman's stories suck anyway" takes. Then again, our personality obviously is in our writing, and it might be not only worthwhile but necessary to examine what we like and what we overlook, especially as fans. Makes sense?

Es geht mir um den Unterschied zwischen "Das, was ich sagen wollte, was ableistisch war, anders formulieren" vs. "etwas sagen (und idealerweise auch denken und fühlen), das nicht ableistisch ist".

Absolut. Aber deine Schilderung unterstellt, dass das, was ich eigentlich sagen möchte, nicht ableistisch ist. Ist eine gewagte Unterstellung für Menschen, die in diesen Gesellschaften aufgewachsen sind. Aber ich glaube, du meinst schon im Prinzip das gleiche wie ich, ich bin nur kleinlich.

A lot of ableism isn't deliberate: that makes it more pernicious! A walker is representing being at lower faculty, by your description. I tweeted this on the other site: "The way walkers are used in media/culture is truly revolting -- & this rep prevents ppl from using what is a useful tool."

Wir suchen eben keine Alternativen, die das gleiche zum Ausdruck bringen wie die ableistische Formulierung, die ersetzt werden soll, weil es nicht darum geht, das gleiche anders zu sagen, sondern darum, Ableismus zu überwinden, im Denken und Sprechen und allem.

Du bist offenbar der Experte, aber ich fände es gut, wenn solche Erläuterungen weniger so klängen, als würden Journalismus-Konzernen solche Sachen unbeabsichtigt passieren und mehr so, als seien sie Teil des Apparats, der das System produziert, aufrecht erhält und nutzt, in dem wir leben.

The thing is, the disabled are a population of enraged people. The disabled are carrying a deep rage because not only is ableism embedded in nearly everything in our world, but people without our vulnerabilities are hostile to making anything better for us. Also society does not accept our rage.

Das Framing "Demokratie vs Faschismus" idealisiert nicht nur das derzeit herrschende System, sondern stellt auch (eigentlicht nicht mal nur) implizit alle Nicht-Demokrat*innen auf Seiten des Faschismus und beides ist echt überhaupt nicht antifaschistisch oder denk ich falsch?

Lage ist, die Konsequenzen des Wahlsystems wahrzunehmen, sondern eher darum, dass sie sie als gegeben hinnimmt und nicht infrage stellt. Vielleicht sogar unterstützt, weil sie davon profitiert. Das ist was völlig anderes als Blindheit, auch metaphorisch.
