Relatively few voters actually watch these debates. The vast majority get their take away from media (and SM) outlets afterward. So instead of framing things in terms of voters' decisions based on the debate a more accurate framing would be in terms of what the *media* decides post-debate.

Hello new friends! Have a look at Messier 13. Visible to the naked eye, if the sky is dark enough. Edmund Halley spotted it in 1714 and wrote “This is but a little Patch, but it shews it self to the naked Eye, when the Sky is serene and the Moon absent.” Which, same. Image: ESA/Hubble, NASA

The term "probabilistic inference" has a tough adoption challenge because long words, but it is vastly more descriptive than "artificial intelligence"

The decision was narrow. It simply held that those private groups lack standing to challenge the FDA's ruling. If a future FDA or Congress were to decide to restrict access, this decision would not stand in the way of them doing so.

Kinda depends on what you mean by "out of the rebuild"? Making the play-in? Making the playoffs with out the play-in? Making the conference Finals? With the standard set from the 90's through 2014 it's tough to say where that is.

Last year, almost half of the honeybee colonies in the U.S. died. The main culprit wasn’t climate change, starvation, or even pesticides, but a parasite: Varroa destructor.

My concern is that as things get more desperate, Governments will resort to just trying stuff on huge scales that *might* work but will have severe unintended consequences. We should have been putting in this effort 50 years ago.

The only thing I can think of is that maybe it's the first time an election crime has been the predicate crime? I have no idea if it's true and don't want to read 9800 cases to verify the claim.

Google explaining the “glue pizza” search result by stating EXPLICITLY that the wrong answer was given BECAUSE nobody had ever asked that question in the training data tells you that what we have isn’t artificial intelligence. It’s a server that copies, changes slightly, and pastes. Not intelligence

Reach for the sky! 🙌

In 2019, Hubble observed spiral galaxy NGC 2276. Its lopsided state is due to the gravitational pull of a galaxy nearby, which is stretching NGC 2276’s spiral arms. It’s a good reminder that galaxies interact with their surroundings: bit.ly/4bFeuxp 🔭 🧪

Great Washington Post nostalgia study. Adults think U.S. society was historically nicest and comfiest—most moral and close-knit, families happiest—whenever they happened to be little kids, and culture (music, movies, TV, fashion, sports, food) best whenever they were adolescents. wapo.st/3WXd9xS

a lot of people misunderstand the "vibecession" debate. the question isn't "is the economy good?" the question is "what explains the unprecedented disconnect between consumer sentiment and economic performance?"

This is not to say that shipping containers are a solution to low- and medium-income housing shortages, just that building materials issues are not simply an excuse but part of a complex problem.

The price of building materials jumped by 14.6% in 2021 and 15% in 2022. The *rate* of increase dramatically slowed in 2023 (1.3%), but those prior year increases are still baked in the market. That price leap wasn't driven entirely by literal shortage, but it is a substantial drag on building.

I don't know that the idea of literal internal dialogue happening to everyone was ever universally accepted but it is certainly true for some unknown portion of the population, but for others it is not true at all.

Why are people always in such a hurry to pronounce something a bomb? I love the Mad Max franchise, and absolutely will see this movie probably more than once but I had other stuff going on this last weekend. I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one in that regard.
