One of the reasons is frontal crash tests. Another of the reason is aerodynamics associated with fuel efficiency standards. Both worthy goals with unfortunate consequences.

Really? The gas guzzler pick ups that are 7' tall on huge ass tires are fuel efficient? Lol. I know they aren't cuz I know what they cost in gas.

The fuel efficiency thing isn't true because CAFE treats light trucks differently. It's mostly a reaction to the Trump years as expressed through hostile vehicle design that appeals to toxic masculinity.
