Alberta has some good ones - these are all within 100km of each other.

at this point I would even settle for something resembling a progressive conservative government instead of whatever horseshit we have now is, because I feel like I get dumber every time I have to read about them.

honestly I love Alberta - the place, the people, and I've felt more at home here than I did in BC. but fuck if the politics aren't the stupidest, most brain dead shit ever - and I grew up in the UK so it's not like I'm not used to it.

Should we be using renewables wherever possible for power generation? Yes! Do we need to continue using fossil fuels where necessary? Also yes! Is this going to be an incremental process? Guess what it's also fucking yes.

I often roll my eyes at "ban fossil fuels yesterday" types, but fuck me if some of the O&G fan boys aren't the stupidest fuckers around. Suncor isn't going to suck you off, you know.

Yes, and also wondering what the fuck happened to some of the left during that time. Maybe it's "no it's the kids who are wrong" but I dunno, if anything my views have moved more left.

it's important to note that the kibble travelled 2 rooms to get there, assisted by water - it's not like I bathe with cat food or something.

today's "laugh or you'd cry" moment brought to you by cat kibble floating in 2 inches of water in my shower.

I do my best to avoid direct dunking on bsky accounts because this is a nice place and I think we should keep it that way, but posts telling people to panic all the time about everything are a fucking insidious virus and the best thing to do is stomp them out with extreme prejudice

call it virtue signalling, call it whatever you want, but there is a trend of dunking on people for quite understandably finding it hard to stay engaged with current events, and i am most definitely not here for it.

the thing that bugs me is the "well that's a privileged position to be in, you monster" takes, because a) they're doing it on social media which famously fixed everything and b) being burnt out helps nobody.

the thing I learned from my therapist during the pandemic was that you have to switch off sometimes. in many ways things aren't any worse (and in a lot of ways better) than they ever have been, we just get fed it straight to our eyeballs 24/7 now for ad clicks.

treating it like it's March 2020 is disingenuous at best, and at worst blatant disinformation. I don't get why people do it. they're in the same boat as anti-vaxxers and ivermectin proponents as far as I'm concerned.

fwiw I think better ventilation should be a priority for a number of reasons, one of which is that high CO2 levels are just generally shit to spend an extended amount of time in.

i suspect - but given that it's been 24 years since I was in school i'm not certain - that there may be slight differences between what activities take place in a bio lab and a school.

Every year people in the US try to deep-fry their Thanksgiving turkeys and end up burning their houses down. Itโs very important that you cook your turkey safely like most Americans: with flamethrowers or grenades.

also the glib part of my brain would like to add that being senior engineers just means we've had more opportunities to create unmitigated disasters rather than having any more sense.

if you're a junior engineer, please don't ever think you can't question things when something doesn't feel right. you have as much right to raise concerns as anyone else and if anyone tells you otherwise, they're wrong.
