always love having "just vote" screamed at me by someone who's political ideology is comprised entirely of huffpo headlines and cable news when i've voted in every election and primary up and down ballot since i've turned 18 and done volunteer work with state and local elections

I never missed an election in my life until I turned 40, on any level. Only once helped elect someone... who swapped to the conservatives. My opinion on voting has cooled to a lukewarm: do it when it makes sense, like if you're in a contested riding. But I've stopped investing my time/money there.

It would also be helpful and more reassuring to the electorate if the party that yells vote in response to awful thing did substantially more than continue to just demand votes once in office as the perpetual solution to everything.

exactly. one limited tool in a very big toolbox, you deploy it every so often with the intent of creating slightly better baseline conditions in which to do the bulk of your political work
