The Brits called an election on May 22 and it happened on July 4. Imagine that kind of election cycle. Fellow Americans, fantasize with me about what that kind of political and media environment is like.
The fact that Starmer will enter 10 Downing Street *today* is also kinda amazing. (Our new far right coalition government took months to assemble and won't last the year I'm sure)
I’m in Great Britain at the moment, and let me tell you another thing: Election was yesterday. Poking around the country for the last week there were relatively few political signs and no political television commercials. The election was in the news, but it wasn’t all the news.
Can you imagine how much better it would be for _the rest of the world_, not having every single piece of media, social and otherwise, saturated with bullshit we can’t influence but have a massive stake in the outcome of?
The distances are smaller there, which helps. I'm not averse to this plan and US cycles are far too long, but there's something to said for several months. If we had this system, Biden would be totally cooked. Here in the US, we still have four months to right the ship.
