An ID to vote seems like a reasonable way to avoid fraud. I believe we've had that in my country (Sweden) since forever. Surely, since 1980 (when I was first allowed to vote, in a referendum about nuclear power).

You can read up on the circumstances in Britain. We have no national ID card, so effectively this disenfranchises large numbers of people who don’t make arrangements to secure free voter ID early enough; accepted IDs are hugely biased towards the elderly; we had virtually no voter fraud pre-ID.

I'm sure I read somewhere that more Tory MPs have been convicted of sex offenses in this parliament alone than there were cases of voter fraud at the last election
