I have a friend who went through a severe depression last year and he refused to promise to call 911 if he went into acute crisis. He was afraid of either being committed or shot. I wish I could have told him his fears were unrealistic. (He did promise to call one of us plus we talked every day.)

My heart truly breaks for you and your friend (and the many in this situation) because I've been there. I have refused to get myself the help I have needed because I am so afraid to go back to an awful place and have my choices taken from me again and it's not right. No one should feel like that
