Even before mask bans become law, simply the act of politicians speaking about mask wearers as criminals is stigmatizing a critical public health tool, and encouraging harassment of marginalized groups. That is incredibly reckless and making our cities more unsafe.

Strictly speaking, banning masks in public gatherings would be an issue that’s not limited to residents of LA. People enter LA from outside in great numbers. Not just tourists. I go to LA periodically for specialist medical care.

I have a friend who went through a severe depression last year and he refused to promise to call 911 if he went into acute crisis. He was afraid of either being committed or shot. I wish I could have told him his fears were unrealistic. (He did promise to call one of us plus we talked every day.)

When I, with a master’s degree, left LS&S employment, they replaced me with an 18 year old. Obvs they paid him minimum wage. It was okay though according to one of my Kool Aid drinking coworkers. His mother was a librarian.

I worked for a privatized county library run by this Library Systems & Services corporation. They ran our libraries into the ground while funneling county property taxes and citizen donations to pay upper management in the state of Maryland Huntington Beach just dodged a bullet.
