IDK where you live (because it's genuinely uneven, especially with respect to cost in say, Cali) but in Charlotte I have a great fast charger 5 minutes from my house that costs like 20 cents/kWh. And lots of other charging options too.

Going to a fast charger and waiting means you are pumping gas on a .2 gallon a minute gas pump at a station with 2 pumps which most don't want to do. The superpower of an EV is "you get in in the morning and it is always full.", but that requires 220V/30A at the parking spot.

Rented an EV for the 1st time year going to a conference in FL. Figured why not as the hotel had multiple chargers and I wasn't driving much. None of the 3 chargers worked, and the next closest was a bit of a drive away, so I just ate the charging fee from the rental co. Not encouraging.

SF Bay Area. Plentiful fast chargers are recent change within the timespan of the Biden administration. Jack and shit availability prior to 2016. Current rate of EV adoption even in the poorer neighborhood where I live is high enough such that charger *availability* near home is a problem.
