It's a lot like how term limits have empowered ALEC & other think tanks. No matter how small government is, the country is big; if public power is constricted by conservative law & jurisprudence, private power will naturally reign where public power falters.

Suspect this dynamic influences a ton of NYT coverage. There's a cohort of donors, from tech in particular (Hoffman, Hastings), who were royalty during the Obama years and are not happy they're not getting a call from the president on their birthday anymore
