As a writer, I find it difficult to articulate myself in a regular conversation. I end up confusing people or making the wrong point. If I need to make sense, I'm writing a text or an email- a message that I've read, edited, deleted, and started over dozens of times before I ever hit send.

I need to fill in the info on this excel sheet, but the layout is abysmal. So before I can do anything I have to redesign it.

This reminds me of last summer, when my MIL—who was hoping to show off my daughter's (5 at the time) Japanese fluency—took her to get a mani/pedi. Afterward, she said my daughter just spoke English. I told her it's probably because the nail techs are Vietnamese.

Japanese public schools are so frustrating! They send home about 50 notices a week and not a single one to say your child is getting out of school an hour earlier than usual. Got home and my daughter was sitting in the genkan doing puzzles with our neighbor.

I hate quarreling with my daughter. Not so much because she’s an irrational 6 year old, but because I often argue like an irrational 6 year old. We argue like brother and sister, not father and daughter, and I can feel her love and respect for me waning every time.

My daughter's voice normally carries to the end of the street, so it's the silence when she's out of sight that puts me on high alert.

Well, he wasn't here this morning. But I was one of several foreign patrons in line, so I guess their hiring him was justified.

My usual cafe just hired a white foreigner (American?) and I’m kind of freaking out about it. It would be presumptuous to order in English, but now I’m going to feel overly self-conscious about ordering in Japanese.

I'm really trying to improve my mood. Yesterday was a rock-bottom day, and today, I'm exhausted from that emotional crash. But I got out of the house (I felt like I had to), and I'm sitting in this cafe, trying to finish up my last two assignments so I can be done with the course.

Not the best photos, but you take what you can get with these guys… they’re so quick! An azure-winged magpie (オナガ or 尾長 ) seen on my morning walk through the cemetery.

Not sure why, but I feel like I've been on an emotional precipice all afternoon. I feel frustrated and angry and like I can't do anything right. This is nothing new, but I absolutely hate feeling like this. My stomach is in knots, and I feel like I either need to cry or puke. Or both.

Makes more sense with phrase “fucking around,” which could definitely mean both now and back then.

I mean the Mignola aesthetic is strong, and it’s one reason why I followed you over on the bird app. Overall, though, your work is unique and beautifully rendered. And it’s just badass. I’ll have to follow you on Cara as well!

Love this teal green door and window combo. Honestly, the whole building is pretty special.

The funny thing is that Steve Oedekerk’s SW parody “Thumb Wars” did it two decades earlier with Princess Bunhead’s line: “I escaped somehow!”

Lovely thunderstorm to usher in tsuyu. I wish I was in bed reading a book, instead I’m cleaning up the dinner dishes after procrastinating all evening.

I just randomly saw this post, and realized Weird Al was in my dream last night. It was one of those post-apocalyptic dreams where people from all over are holed up in one safe space, and I was just happy that Weird Al made it.

Honestly, the one thing I miss about living in the US is owning my home. I had the freedom to renovate, remodel, and decorate however I wanted with few constraints. And I had my things... my personal belongings that made it my *home*. I really don't have any of that here.

I reply to every single one of these emails with something along these lines. Maybe it goes to an unmonitored mailbox, but I’ve yet to get an undeliverable message. So maybe someone is reading them.

My daughter, while waiting for Daddy to get ready to take her to the park, choreographed an entire dance routine to The Bangle's "Walk Like an Egyptian" complete with the actual Egyptian walk. It was so good!

I was thinking about taking some time for myself tomorrow, since the kid was home all day Monday. But I got caught up playing Zelda all evening and now it’s after 2 am. So I guess that time has been spent.

Well, we got the new place! That means we've got a lot of work ahead of us... and a lot of money to dump on deposits, key money, guarantor, etc. Then the cleanup and actual move from our current place... all before our trip to the States.
Look at these windows, though! Finally, natural light!

I'm from TX (live in Japan) & whenever I visit, there's a 10-hour trek from Dallas to So TX that results in a Buc-cee's stop or two. It's packed w/ 100s of snacks (some fresh, some pre-packaged, all heavily processed), souvenirs, clothes, furniture, lawn decor, toys & the cleanest toilets on I-35.

My 6yo was so excited to bring home her first school library books, but her water bottle accidentally spilled in her bag. We dried them out best we could, but we explained to the librarian what happened. She said it was OK, but now the whole 1st grade is banned from checking out books. 😢

I’ve started replying to every email and text message I get from Joe Biden’s fundraisers and Democrats Abroad saying that his support for Israel needs to stop. They keep saying Trump will rule like Hitler, meanwhile Biden supports literal genocide.

I’ve been in awful mood all day. I’m frustrated and short-tempered, and I just want to take a nap instead of doing the whole work/school/parenting thing. I also haven’t eaten lunch so that could be part of it. But I really don’t want the leftovers in the fridge.

Sonic has their Brown Bag Special, which is two burgers and two tots and two drinks. And when I was a kid, Red Line Burgers, then Rally's/Checker's had family bags, which IIRC had four or five burgers.

Going to look at a new place this afternoon. I'm not in love with the look of the building, but it is a bigger space. It is about 12 sq meters bigger than our current house and also about ¥50,000 more expensive, but it's a lot closer to work/school and generally has a better layout.

I’ve come to despise this in film trailers (e.g. the slow rendition of Jurassic park or super Mario bros), but when it comes out in the film/series actual climax, it truly is divine. Like in the Castlevania series when they storm Dracula’s castle, and Bloody Tears starts playing. 🙂↕️
