The freakout I think is mostly because people are starting to fear Trump is inevitable. With halfway decent staff in place, the government can pretty well run itself. Which it largely did when Trump was in office, because he didn't even know he needed a transition team. Totally clueless.

I think it all boils down to whether Biden still stands a chance of defeating a person we can all agree should never be in a position of power again. Biden performed badly. Trump showed us exactly why he is a danger to democracy & the free world. I'd vote for just about anyone that isn't Trump.
