Sure, a lot of us have dunked on Nate Silver for his perpetual pandemic take rake stepping. But stuff like this — demonstrating he doesn't just not understand what 'Deep State' means, but getting it almost completely backwards — makes me wonder wtf he did at 538 all day most of the year?

Math stuff. Election stats the same way he did sports stats. Doesn't require knowing politics, but still more valid than most punditry. The problem is he became a pundit. Nate criticized himself for this once, after he predicted Trump wouldn't be nominated - opining without building a model.
