if you’re working with other adults to bully a child, maybe you’re actually trash. maybe you’re really a monster. maybe you’re the reason no one can have nice things & you’re the kind of person a social media site will laugh about when you die.
maybe your children already hate you.

Minor Correction? New Westminster has *not* opposed Bills 44, 46, or 47 as implied in this article. We are moving forward with our Bylaw changes to be fully complaint with those regs. I find the Housing Targets Regulation unnecessary in some Cities, but that’s a different argument than made here.

Happy to support Matt getting it, as long as he commits to preparing a report to Mayor and Council.

I went to Calgary for #FCM2024, and saw some things. More reports coming to the newsletter (you need to sign up!) and the webpage, but for now here are some pictures.

The 1000’s of delegates arriving in Calgary today for the Federation of Canadian Municipalities conference - where local governments talk mostly about infrastructure challenges - are going to have a field day about this.

Mencken wrote this more than a century ago. It has never been more true.

IMO: Always runs up against thermodynamics. Except in a very few niche applications that don’t scale, it takes much more energy and $ to strip the oxygen off the carbon than we gained sticking the oxygen onto the carbon in the first place.

The State of the City address is an annual business luncheon organized by the Chamber of Commerce; a model that saves the City some money & gives the Chamber & some local businesses bit of a boost. Partnerships like this are a win-win.

Nope. That’s way up the Nanaimo Group succession - Gabriola Formation. Relatively boring and massive sandstones with some conglomerates. Really late Cretaceous that stuff, not much for fossils.

Not mentioned in the Story: Pym was part of my Masters Thesis mapping area. Fault-repeated sections of Haslam Formation turbidites and Extension Formation shallow marine sandstones from the Upper Cretaceous. And trace fossils to boot!

To update. I hated the Oilers two weeks ago. I will hate them next week.
I’m not going to flip to the team that beat my team just because my team is no longer in the running. Who do you think I am, Eleanore Sturko?!

Thanks for doing this. Front line staff trying to keep people safe often get negative feedback because people don’t like their own behaviour being enforced. If just one in 10 people thanked them, it would make their difficult jobs much less stressful.

With SSMUH and climate disruption, it’s frankly less a concern about usefulness of the land and more a concern about infiltration and run-off storm capacity.

Then he doubles down the insult by suggesting I need to talk to my community about our needs. I talk to my community every f#<%ng day - they are asking for schools, childcare, family doctors, and for the province to address non-market and supportive housing.
