Important and careful visual investigation of what happened at UCLA from the New York Times establishes how counter-protestors provoked violence. www.nytimes.com/interactive/...

We're like one Kyle Rittenhouse away from protesters being murdered, I fear.

Are they ā€˜counter protestorsā€™ or are they aggressors who went there to start shit?

"Counter-protesters provoked violence" strongly suggests that the *actual* protesters *enacted* the violence, which is simply false. Of course the violent right-wing thugs also weren't "counter-protesters," they were violent right-wing thugs there to assault the protesters, so the NYT can GFI.

But would we say they ā€œprovokedā€ violence? They *enacted* the violence, didnā€™t they? Itā€™s not like they jeered at the protesters and the protesters cracked. They were violent toward the protesters.
