Driver with no plates on his car makes an illegal turn, seriously injuring a Citi Bike rider in Brooklyn. Cops show up and watch him put a Florida plate on his car, even though the driver says he lives down the street. Police write the driver up just for failure to yield and let him go.

Also, one of the great evils of car-centric design is that for a lot of people, losing your car means losing your access to the entire world beyond your driveway - especially at an age like that where you can't necessary walk or bike very far. It's no way to build a society, this suburban sprawl.

the average driver is completely habituated to breaking traffic laws constantly, sometimes several at once, and understands that speeding/phone use/stop sign running/etc are effectively legal. they are outraged by any attempt to make traffic laws real

I think the realistic stock price for Tesla, divorced from the "musk as tony stark" mythmaking, is a fraction of what it is now. imo for better or for worse they're stuck with the guy if they don't want people to start asking serious questions about why this stock isn't 1/10th of what it is now
