I stutter. I’m also a pretty good extemporaneous speaker.
I’ve been rattled to the point of panic when things start going off the rails.
It is IMO likely that a big chunk of Biden’s debate struggles were downstream of a rocky start and attempts to recover through his mouth throwing 404s
The funniest possible ending is that in the second debate he performs like he did v Ryan in 2012, and it turns out he just had covid at the first one lol
One of the greatest things about Biden is how he stops to help kids with stutters and offers them advice. It's just beautiful to see. Especially as a parent of a child with a stutter, it upsets me how little tolerance for or understanding of speech impediments that Americans have.
I have adhd and anxiety and sometimes when I’m giving a presentation or just telling a lengthy story my next words or sentences I’m teeing up in my brain just fall right out of my head. It’s not often but I’m sure folks know when it happens. And the more I try to remember the worse it gets.
As I (an imperfectly "reformed" stutterer) have learned over the last few years, an alarming number of non-stutterers fancy themselves the world's leading experts on what stuttering sounds and looks like.
Seems like the sort of thing that would be easy to test by seeing him in a variety of other environments, like delivering a prepared speech, doing off-the-cuff gladhanding, & doing an unscripted TV interview
I don't stutter, but I could see right away that Biden was struggling heavily to control his that night for some reason. I don't doubt that he is mentally competent. He certainly did look frail though, in a way that was worrying when applying for a four year contract. Not saying he should quit tho.
I think so too. The main reason I would want him to withdraw is because most other people can’t see that. I’m not actually worried about his competence.
