It’s more just some schadenfreude from how they took such glee in our own collapse in 2015. And they’re not actually underperforming that heavily versus their vote share - they were actually strong beneficiaries of FPTP until now (48 seats when they should have had about 25).

I’m also very pleased to see the Greens quadruple their number of seats. Having more of their voices in Parliament will hopefully help give more prominence to the climate crisis (even if I think the Lib Dems have a better plan to sort it).

Seventy seats. Fuck me. I didn’t expect this in my wildest predictions for this election. It’s a shame it’s come with such a strong Labour Party; in an ideal world they’d be short of a majority and we’d be able to force them to be decent. But nevertheless - we’re so back.

My personal opinion is for STV. It keeps the constituency link, and require you to actually campaign in a particular area to win. It also means no one gets a safe spot at the top of a party list.

What did you want them to do? Evidence shows that voters respond very poorly to those kinds of stitch ups, real or even perceived. They can’t just be shuttled around like blocks between parties. The Lib Dems didn’t campaign there. Anyone who still voted for them would never have voted Labour.

In terms of pure numbers, Keir Starmer’s vote has been cut in half. Obviously he’s still won. But this has to prompt some serious soul-searching in him as to why he’s lost so much popularity. As the swings show, part of that is his callous indifference to suffering in Gaza.
