(If you're in Baltimore and don't know about The Book Thing: it's a nonprofit used book free distribution system. A major fire fucked them up for a long time, but they're getting back on their feet and are open one day a month again! bookthing.org )
in 2019 my friend was like “i got this amazing book from the book thing to cut up for collage.” i looked at it and said “this is a rare charley harper illustrated book!” it was worth $$$ (can’t resell book thing books). it turned out her grandfather had written the foreword!! viva la book thing
ngl lately I've been getting more and more "look how cool Baltimore can be" stuff in my feed, and I'm wondering if it's some kind of op to get people like me to want to move there.
(my city is cool, too, but Florida)
Whoa. Almost two decades ago I helped run a "Book Thing" here in Greater Boston, and for a minute I thought the Baltimore project must be a continuation of it. But looking back at the website I created for the local founder, I see she was basing her work on the Baltimore Book Thing!
